Hochkalterhütte

Hochkalterhütte is a mountain hut located in the Berchtesgaden Alps, Bavaria, Germany. Situated at an altitude of 1720 meters, it serves as a popular base for hikers and climbers exploring the Hochkalter massif. The hut is accessible via several hiking trails, with the most common route starting from the Hintersee lake.

The original structure was built in 1927 and has undergone several renovations and expansions over the years to accommodate the increasing number of visitors. Today, it offers dormitory-style sleeping accommodations and private rooms, as well as a dining area serving traditional Bavarian food and drinks. The hut is typically open from June to October.

The surrounding area is renowned for its dramatic scenery, including steep rock faces, alpine meadows, and the picturesque lake Hintersee. Popular activities in the vicinity include summiting the Hochkalter (2607 m), exploring the adjacent peaks, and hiking through the Ramsau region. The hut is a vital stop for those undertaking multi-day treks in the Berchtesgaden National Park. It is managed by the German Alpine Club (Deutscher Alpenverein).
