Hlutfallslegs

Hlutfallslegs is an Icelandic term used to describe a proportional relationship between two quantities. When one quantity is hlutfallslegs to another, there exists a constant k such that the dependent quantity equals k times the independent quantity. The constant k is called the hlutfallsstuðull, or proportionality constant. In symbols, if y is hlutfallslegs to x, then y = kx for all x in the considered domain.
