Hinnast

Hinnast is an Estonian term that functions as the elative form of the noun hind, meaning price. In linguistic usage, hinnast denotes “from the price” or “based on the price,” and it appears in contexts where the price or price level serves as a source or basis for a statement.

In grammar, hinnast is formed by adding the elative suffix -st to the stem hind. This form is used to indicate origin, basis, or reference to price in formal or technical writing. Commonly, hinnast can appear in phrases such as hinnast lähtudes, meaning “based on the price,” or similar constructions that tie a claim or decision to price information.

In everyday Estonian, the elative hinnast is relatively specialized and is less common outside pricing, budgeting, or economic discourse. For ordinary talk about costs, speakers typically use the noun hind or phrases with hinnad (prices) or hinnakirja (price list). The term hinnast should not be confused with hinnakirja, which is the explicit price list, whereas hinnast refers to the price as a source or basis.
