Hillotaan

Hillotaan is a fictional cultural practice described in speculative anthropology and worldbuilding. It denotes a seasonal communal ritual of fruit preservation through jam and similar preserves, intended to strengthen social bonds and food security.

The term is said to derive from the local word hillo for jam and the passive suffix -taan, forming a noun meaning "the act of jam-making." In the stories, hillotaan emphasizes collaborative labor and sharing.

The event occurs in late summer when fruit is abundant. Families gather to collect fruit, boil, and sterilize jars, and seal preserves. Jars are labeled with marks representing households and recipes.
