Hiippakatalyyttiä
Hiippakatalyyttiä, known in English as enzyme catalysis or biocatalysis, refers to the acceleration of chemical reactions by biological catalysts called enzymes. Enzymes are typically proteins, though some RNA molecules (ribozymes) also exhibit catalytic activity. They are highly specific, meaning each enzyme usually catalyzes only one or a very limited range of reactions. This specificity is due to the unique three-dimensional structure of the enzyme, particularly its active site, which binds to a specific substrate or substrates.
The mechanism of enzyme catalysis involves lowering the activation energy of a reaction. Enzymes achieve this
Enzyme catalysis plays a crucial role in virtually all biological processes, from metabolism and DNA replication
