Higroszkóposak

Higroszkóposak is a Hungarian term referring to hygroscopic substances. Hygroscopic materials have the ability to attract and absorb water molecules from their surrounding environment, typically from the air. This absorption can occur through a process called adsorption, where water molecules adhere to the surface of the substance, or through absorption, where water molecules are taken into the bulk of the material.

The degree of hygroscopicity varies greatly among different substances. Some materials, like anhydrous salts such as calcium chloride or magnesium sulfate, are highly hygroscopic and can readily absorb significant amounts of moisture, often to the point of dissolving in the absorbed water, a phenomenon known as deliquescence. Other substances, like certain sugars or silica gel, are also hygroscopic but may absorb less water or do so at a slower rate.

Hygroscopic properties are important in various scientific and industrial applications. They are utilized in desiccants, which are used to remove moisture from enclosed spaces to prevent spoilage or damage to sensitive materials, such as electronics or food products.
