These birds are characterized by their striking plumage, which shifts in color from deep sapphire to iridescent emerald depending on the angle of light. They possess a distinctive, elongated crest of feathers that is used in courtship displays. Heraldedyksitt are primarily solitary creatures, forming pairs only during the brief nesting season.

Their diet consists mainly of mountain berries and small insects found in the high-altitude flora.
