Happeenlähteet, a Finnish term, directly translates to "oxygen sources." In a general context, it refers to anything that releases oxygen into the environment. This can encompass both natural and artificial processes.

Naturally, the most significant source of atmospheric oxygen is photosynthesis, carried out by plants, algae, and cyanobacteria. During photosynthesis, these organisms use sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to produce energy in the form of glucose and release oxygen as a byproduct. Phytoplankton in oceans play a particularly crucial role in global oxygen production.

Artificial oxygen sources are less common but exist in specific applications. For instance, in medical settings, oxygen concentrators are devices that extract oxygen from ambient air, creating a higher concentration for therapeutic use. Similarly, in some industrial processes, oxygen can be generated through electrolysis of water or by separating it from other gases in the air. The term can also metaphorically refer to anything that revitalizes or brings new life, similar to how oxygen is essential for respiration and survival. However, its primary and most literal meaning relates to the actual generation and release of the element oxygen.
