Haitallisina

Haitallisina is a Finnish word form that can be found in neutral, formal texts. It functions as the essive plural form of the adjective haitallinen, meaning “harmful.” In this use, haitallisina roughly means “as harmful ones” or “as harmful substances” and is used to describe entities that are regarded in a context as causing harm. For example, phrases such as haitallisina tekijöinä (as harmful factors) or haitallisina aineina (as harmful substances) are standard in risk assessments, environmental reports, or health literature.

The form is distinct from similarly sounding but semantically different haitilainen, the adjective meaning “Haitian” and the related noun haitilaiset meaning “the Haitians.” In writing about people from Haiti, the correct form would be haitilaisina to mean “as Haitians.” The two forms are not interchangeable and reflect different roots: haitallinen versus haitilainen.
