Hahoken

Hahoken is a small coastal municipality located in the western province of Northern Vaelia. The town occupies a narrow peninsula jutting into the Sea of Aleria, and its geography is characterized by steep basalt cliffs, rocky coves, and narrow sandy beaches. Archaeological surveys indicate that Hahoken has been inhabited since the Bronze Age, when the first settlements were built to take advantage of the strategic naval position. Historic records from the Early Feudal Period describe the establishment of a local lordship devoted to the protection of maritime trade between the Vaelian mainland and the island kingdoms of the southern archipelago.

The contemporary population of Hahoken is approximately 2,500 residents, largely engaged in fishing, boatbuilding, and the seasonal export of salt and seaweed. The town’s primary economic activity is the annual Hahoken Lobster Festival, which attracts tourists from across the realm. Local folklore features tales of the “Sea‑Spirit of Hahoken,” a guardian figure said to protect fishermen during stormy nights. The town’s civic identity is celebrated each spring during the Lantern Procession, where residents float paper lanterns on the harbor to honor their ancestral maritime guardians.
