Gyógyszerforgalmazás refers to the process of distributing and selling pharmaceutical products. This encompasses the entire supply chain, from the manufacturer to the end consumer. It is a highly regulated activity to ensure the safety, efficacy, and accessibility of medicines.

The primary entities involved in gyógyszerforgalmazás are pharmaceutical manufacturers, wholesalers (or distributors), and pharmacies. Manufacturers produce the drugs, which are then typically sold to licensed wholesalers. These wholesalers store the medications under controlled conditions and distribute them to various pharmacies, hospitals, and other healthcare providers. Pharmacies, in turn, dispense these medications to patients based on prescriptions or over-the-counter availability.

Key aspects of gyógyszerforgalmazás include licensing and authorization for all participants, strict adherence to Good Distribution Practices (GDP) to maintain drug quality during transport and storage, and robust tracking and tracing systems to prevent counterfeit or substandard medicines from entering the market. Regulatory bodies, such as the National Institute of Pharmacy and Nutrition (OGYÉTI) in Hungary, oversee and enforce these regulations. The goal is to ensure that patients receive safe and effective medications when and where they are needed, while also preventing diversion and misuse. This complex system requires significant infrastructure, specialized knowledge, and continuous oversight.
