Coating agents are applied to tablets for protection, taste masking, or controlled release, including polymers like hydroxypropyl methylcellulose. Solvents, emulsifiers, and preservatives are also frequently employed in liquid and semi-solid dosage forms. The selection of appropriate excipients is critical and depends on the API's properties, the desired dosage form, and the route of administration.
