Großtwerschen

Großtwerschen is a district of the town of Querfurt in the Mansfeld-Südharz district of Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. It is located southwest of the main town of Querfurt.

The village was first documented in 1046 as "Tueresh". Over time, its name evolved, and it became known as Großtwerschen. The "Groß" prefix distinguishes it from a smaller settlement, Kleintwerschen, which no longer exists as a separate entity.

Historically, Großtwerschen was an independent municipality. It was incorporated into the town of Querfurt on January 1, 2004, as part of a municipal reform in Saxony-Anhalt. The village retains its rural character and is primarily agricultural.

The area around Großtwerschen is characterized by rolling hills and agricultural landscapes typical of the Querfurter Platte. The local infrastructure includes a church and residential buildings. Like many rural communities in the region, Großtwerschen has experienced demographic changes in recent decades. It serves as a residential area for people working in Querfurt and the surrounding region.
