Gongorism
Gongorism is a term used to describe a highly ornate and complex style of writing, particularly prevalent in Spanish Baroque literature. It is named after the poet Luis de Góngora y Argote, who is considered the foremost exponent of this literary tendency. Gongorism is characterized by its elaborate syntax, extensive use of classical allusions, neologisms, and a rich vocabulary drawn from Latin and Greek. The style often employs hyperbaton, the deliberate alteration of the usual word order, to create intricate sentence structures. Metaphors and other figures of speech are frequently employed in a dense and sometimes obscure manner.
The primary aim of Gongorism was to elevate the language and express complex ideas with a sophisticated
