Glükoosivarusid refers to the stored forms of glucose within an organism. Glucose is the primary source of energy for most cells, and when it is not immediately needed, it can be converted into storage molecules. The main forms of glucose storage are glycogen and starch.

Similar to glycogen, starch can be broken down into glucose when the plant requires energy. The enzymes responsible for starch breakdown are collectively known as amylases.
