Glødtemperaturen

Glødtemperaturen, often translated as "glow temperature" or "incandescence temperature," refers to the temperature at which a material begins to emit visible light due to its heat. This phenomenon is a direct consequence of thermal radiation, where the energy of the atoms within the material causes them to vibrate and release photons. As the temperature increases, the frequency and intensity of these emitted photons rise, shifting the emitted light from infrared (invisible) to red, and then through the spectrum of visible colors.

The specific temperature at which a material starts to glow visibly depends on its properties, particularly its emissivity and melting point. Different materials will have distinct glow temperatures. For example, metals like iron will begin to glow at a lower temperature than ceramics. This principle is fundamental in many industrial processes, such as forging, glassmaking, and pyrometry, where observing the color of the glow can provide an estimate of the material's temperature. While the glow temperature marks the beginning of visible light emission, the color and brightness continue to change significantly with further increases in temperature.
