Glykozylových

Glykozylových refers to a class of chemical compounds that are glycosides. Glycosides are organic compounds in which a sugar molecule is bonded to another functional group via a glycosidic bond. This other functional group is known as the aglycone or genin. The sugar part of the molecule is called the glycone. The type of sugar involved determines the specific classification, for example, if the sugar is glucose, it would be a glucoside.

These compounds are widespread in nature, particularly in plants, where they often serve protective or signaling functions. They can also be found in fungi and animals. The properties of a glycoside are a combination of those of its sugar and aglycone components. The glycosidic bond can be broken through hydrolysis, often catalyzed by enzymes called glycosidases. This enzymatic cleavage releases the sugar and the aglycone.

Glycosides have various applications. In medicine, many natural glycosides are used as pharmaceuticals due to their diverse biological activities, such as cardiac glycosides (e.g., digoxin) used to treat heart failure, or antibiotic glycosides. In the food industry, some glycosides contribute to flavor or color. The study of glycosides is an important area of carbohydrate chemistry and natural product chemistry.
