Glutaion
Glutathione is a tripeptide composed of three amino acids: cysteine, glutamate, and glycine. It is a naturally occurring antioxidant produced by the body, playing a crucial role in various cellular processes. These processes include detoxification, immune function, and the synthesis and repair of DNA. Glutathione is particularly concentrated in the liver, where it aids in neutralizing harmful substances and removing toxins. It also helps regenerate other antioxidants, such as vitamin C and vitamin E, further enhancing the body's defense against oxidative stress. Oxidative stress occurs when there is an imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants, potentially leading to cellular damage. Factors such as poor diet, environmental toxins, and aging can deplete glutathione levels. Consequently, some individuals explore ways to increase their glutathione levels, through diet or supplements. Foods rich in sulfur-containing amino acids, like garlic, onions, and cruciferous vegetables, can support the body's natural glutathione production.
