Gløderør

Gløderør is a Danish term that translates to "glow plug" in English. These devices are primarily used in diesel engines to aid in starting. In cold weather, the air inside the cylinder of a diesel engine may not be warm enough to ignite the fuel injected. A glow plug is a small heating element that screws into the cylinder head of each diesel engine. When the ignition is switched on, an electric current passes through the glow plug, causing it to heat up to a high temperature, typically around 1,000 degrees Celsius (1,832 degrees Fahrenheit). This heat is then transferred to the combustion chamber, pre-heating the air within. When the engine is cranked, the pre-heated air helps to ignite the diesel fuel, allowing the engine to start more easily. In some modern diesel engines, glow plugs may also operate for a short period after the engine has started to ensure smooth running and reduce emissions.
