Gjashtëdhjetë

Gjashtëdhjetë is the Albanian word for the number sixty, corresponding to the numeral 60 in cardinal counting. It is used in everyday language for counting, ages, dates, prices, and other quantitative expressions.

The form gjashtëdhjetë is a compound built from gjashtë, meaning six, and dhjetë, meaning ten. This pattern of combining a digit with the word for ten is common in Albanian for forming tens, as seen in other numbers such as tridhjetë (thirty) and shtatëdhjetë (seventy). The orthography reflects Albanian phonology, with the diacritic ë appearing in the tens root.

In standard Albanian, the tens from 60 to 99 are formed in a regular way. The base thirty, forty, fifty, sixty, seventy, eighty, and ninety are: tridhjetë, katërdhjetë, pesëdhjetë, gjashtëdhjetë, shtatëdhjetë, tetëdhjetë, dhe nëntëdhjetë. For numbers 61–69 one typically says gjashtëdhjet e një through gjashtëdhjet e gjashtë (sixty-one to sixty-six), with the particle e used before the unit. The same tens form is used when counting higher numbers, dates, or prices that include the tens component.

Gjashtëdhjetë appears primarily as a numerical term and does not carry independent semantic meanings beyond its numeric value.
