Gesundheitsfürsorge is the German term for the provision of health care services, encompassing prevention, treatment, rehabilitation and health promotion. It reflects the shared responsibility between individuals, employers, health insurers and the state to ensure that citizens have access to adequate medical care.

In Germany, health care is organized through the statutory health insurance system (Gesetzliche Krankenversicherung) and private health insurance. Citizens are normally enrolled in a statutory health insurer, funded by payroll contributions from both employee and employer, while certain groups may opt for private insurance. The state regulates the range of services covered, sets fee schedules for physicians and hospitals, and monitors quality standards.

Key pillars of Gesundheitsfürsorge include primary care, which is typically accessed through general practitioners, specialist care coordinated by referral, emergency services provided by ambulances and hospital care for acute and complex conditions, and outpatient services such as physiotherapy and mental health support.
