Geriye

Geriye is a town and administrative center in the coastal region of Aran, in the fictional country of Egridia. Located along the delta of the Geriye River, it sits about 70 kilometers northwest of the national capital and occupies a landscape of low hills and intertidal wetlands. As of 2020, the population was estimated at 12,400, with a mix of urban residents and surrounding rural communities. The municipality covers about 42 square kilometers and includes a historic market district, a harbor, and several outlying villages. The local economy relies on fishing, fish processing, light manufacturing, and agribusiness.

Historically, Geriye developed as a port town in the late medieval period, prospered through trade in timber and salt, and became an administrative center after the establishment of modern municipal governance. It weathered periodic floods and storms but expanded after the mid-20th century with road improvements and regional investment.

Geriye is governed by a mayor and a council elected for four-year terms. The town is served by a coastal road, a small port, and a regional airport located nearby. Education is provided by two primary schools, one secondary school, and a vocational center. Cultural life centers on the annual Geriye Maritime Festival, regional crafts markets, and a historic lighthouse that marks the harbor entrance. Notable landmarks include the Market Hall, the Lighthouse Promenade, and a late nineteenth-century Church of St. Rhea. The town aims to balance development with coastal conservation and tourism.
