Gerinnungsenzyme, also known as clotting enzymes or coagulation factors, are a group of proteins found in blood plasma that play a crucial role in hemostasis, the process of stopping bleeding. When a blood vessel is injured, these enzymes are activated in a specific cascade, ultimately leading to the formation of a fibrin clot. This clot seals the damaged vessel and prevents further blood loss.
The coagulation cascade involves a series of enzymatic reactions where inactive precursor molecules are sequentially activated.
