Gerinnungsaktivität refers to the process by which blood clots form. This is a vital physiological mechanism that prevents excessive bleeding after injury. The coagulation cascade involves a series of protein enzymes, known as clotting factors, that are activated in a specific sequence. When a blood vessel is damaged, this cascade is initiated, leading to the formation of a fibrin clot that seals the wound.
