Geostationäärisille

Geostationäärisille describes a specific type of orbit around the Earth. An object in a geostationary orbit appears to remain in a fixed position in the sky, relative to an observer on the ground. This is achieved by orbiting the Earth directly above the equator at a specific altitude and with an orbital period that precisely matches the Earth's rotational period. The speed of the orbiting object perfectly matches the speed at which the Earth rotates beneath it. This unique characteristic makes geostationary orbits incredibly valuable for various applications, particularly in telecommunications and weather monitoring. Satellites in this orbit can continuously broadcast signals to a specific geographic area without the need for ground-based tracking antennas to constantly adjust their position. The altitude for a geostationary orbit is approximately 35,786 kilometers (22,236 miles) above the Earth's mean sea level. This orbit is a subset of geosynchronous orbits, which have an orbital period matching Earth's rotation but may be inclined to the equator.
