Generaaleja

Generaaleja is the partitive plural form of the Finnish noun generaali, used when referring to multiple general officers in a sentence where the action or quantity is not definite. The form reflects Finnish noun inflection, where borrowed or native terms that designate ranks can take the partitive plural ending in plural contexts.

In standard Finnish, the official rank name for a general is kenraali. Generaali is a loanword that appears in historical, literary, or journalistic contexts and in discussions about generals as a group. Because of this, generaaleja tends to be found in writing that describes several generals without specifying exact numbers or identities, rather than in formal contemporary titles or official lists.

Grammatically, generaaleja is used as a partitive object or in constructions that require the partitive case. It is less common in everyday modern Finnish than kenraaleja, which would be the more typical plural form when the language refers to multiple individuals holding the official rank of general.
