Gefässsystem
Gefässsystem refers to the network of blood vessels in the body. This system is responsible for transporting blood, nutrients, oxygen, and hormones to all tissues and organs, and for removing waste products like carbon dioxide. It comprises arteries, veins, and capillaries. Arteries carry oxygenated blood away from the heart, branching into smaller arterioles and then into a vast network of capillaries. Capillaries are tiny vessels where the exchange of gases and nutrients with the body's cells takes place. Deoxygenated blood is then collected by venules, which merge into larger veins that return the blood to the heart. The entire gefässsystem functions as a closed circulatory system, driven by the pumping action of the heart. Diseases affecting the gefässsystem, such as atherosclerosis or hypertension, can have serious health consequences. Maintaining the health of the gefässsystem is crucial for overall well-being.
