Gazownia is a term that refers to a gasworks or gas plant, a facility where town gas is produced from coal or other carbonaceous materials. The process involves the gasification of coal, which converts it into a mixture of gases, primarily hydrogen and carbon monoxide, known as town gas. This gas is then purified and distributed to households and businesses for heating, cooking, and lighting purposes.

The history of Gazownia dates back to the 19th century, coinciding with the Industrial Revolution.
