Gaugede

Gaugede is a small, unincorporated community located in the southeastern region of the U.S. state of Oregon. Situated within Lane County, it lies along the Willamette River, approximately 12 miles northeast of Eugene and 10 miles southwest of Cottage Grove. The area is characterized by its rural setting, agricultural land, and proximity to the scenic Willamette Valley.

The name "Gaugede" is believed to derive from the French phrase "gauche de Dieu," meaning "God's left hand," though the exact origin remains somewhat unclear. The community developed primarily as a farming and logging area, with early settlers arriving in the mid-19th century. The region’s fertile soil and access to the Willamette River made it ideal for orchards, vineyards, and timber operations.

Today, Gaugede retains a quiet, agricultural character with a mix of residential properties and working farms.
