In online maker and hobbyist communities it appears as either a nickname for a homemade gasifier project or as a brand or handle associated with a particular design. The term does not refer to a standardized device or method, and its meaning can vary by context.

Gasification is the thermochemical conversion of carbon-rich feedstocks into a combustible gas mixture, typically containing hydrogen, carbon monoxide, methane, and carbon dioxide. A gasifier operates by partially combusting the feedstock in a controlled environment with limited air or oxygen at elevated temperatures. Common architectures include fixed-bed, fluidized-bed, and entrained-flow designs. The resulting syngas can be used for electricity generation, heat, or as a chemical feedstock, depending on the gas cleanup and processing steps that follow.

If a device called gasifierbart exists, it would share these general features: a feedstock supply, a reactor where the gasification reaction occurs, an energy input to sustain the process, and a gas cleanup system to remove particulates, tar, and sulfur compounds.
