Gamètì

Gamètì is a small community located in the Northwest Territories of Canada. It is situated on the eastern shore of Great Bear Lake, approximately 100 kilometers north of Délı̨nę. The community is part of the Sahtu Region and is the homeland of the Gwichyà Gwich'in people. Gamètì is accessible primarily by air and water, with a winter road connecting it to other communities during the colder months.

Historically, the area around Gamètì has been a traditional hunting and fishing ground for Indigenous peoples for centuries. The current settlement began to develop in the mid-20th century as people moved from more remote camps to establish a more permanent community. The name Gamètì is derived from the local Dene language and translates to "where the river meets the lake."

The economy of Gamètì is largely based on traditional activities such as hunting, fishing, and trapping. There are also some government and community services providing employment.
