Gallvägrelated

Gallvägrelated refers to conditions, diseases, or symptoms associated with the biliary tract, which includes the gallbladder and bile ducts. The biliary tract is a system of organs responsible for storing and releasing bile, a fluid produced by the liver that aids in digestion. Bile travels from the liver through the bile ducts to the gallbladder for storage and then to the small intestine to break down fats.

Common gallvägrelated issues include gallstones, which are hardened deposits of digestive fluid that can form in the gallbladder. These stones can cause pain, inflammation of the gallbladder (cholecystitis), or block the bile ducts, leading to jaundice and infection. Bile duct stones can also occur independently of gallbladder stones. Inflammation of the bile ducts, known as cholangitis, is a serious infection that requires prompt medical attention.

Other gallvägrelated conditions encompass benign and malignant tumors of the gallbladder and bile ducts. Strictures, or narrowings of the bile ducts, can impede bile flow and are often caused by inflammation, injury, or surgery. Gallvägrelated symptoms can include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, fever, and jaundice, which is a yellowing of the skin and eyes due to a buildup of bilirubin. Diagnosis typically involves imaging tests such as ultrasound, CT scans, or MRI, and treatment varies depending on the specific condition and may include medication, minimally invasive procedures like ERCP, or surgery.
