Gaduschalcogrammus
Gaduschalcogrammus is a genus of marine ray-finned fish belonging to the family Blenniidae, the combtooth blennies. The genus is monotypic, containing only one recognized species, Gaduschalcogrammus dolichurus. This species is native to the western Atlantic Ocean, where it is found along the coasts of the United States and the Caribbean. Gaduschalcogrammus dolichurus is a small, demersal fish, typically reaching lengths of around 10 centimeters. It is characterized by its elongated body, which gives it the specific epithet "dolichurus," meaning "long-tailed" in Greek. The fish has a distinctive pattern of dark spots on its body, which helps it blend into its surroundings. Gaduschalcogrammus dolichurus is known to inhabit coral reefs and rocky areas, where it feeds on small invertebrates. Despite its small size, this species plays an important role in the ecosystem by controlling the populations of its prey. The genus Gaduschalcogrammus was first described by the American ichthyologist Theodore Nicholas Gill in 1862.
