Fükobilipigmente

Fükobilipigmente are a class of water-soluble, phycobiliprotein-derived pigments found primarily in certain photosynthetic aquatic organisms, such as cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) and red algae. These pigments play a crucial role in capturing light energy for photosynthesis, particularly in environments where light penetration is limited or of specific wavelengths.

Structurally, fükobilipigmente consist of bilins—linear tetrapyrrole molecules—attached to protein complexes called phycobiliproteins.
