Förhistoriskt

Förhistoriskt refers to the period of time before written records. It encompasses the vast expanse of human existence and the history of the Earth preceding the invention of writing systems. This era is studied through archaeological evidence, such as fossil remains, tools, pottery, and ancient structures.

The prehistoric period is broadly divided into distinct ages based on the dominant materials used for toolmaking. The Stone Age, the earliest and longest, is further subdivided into the Paleolithic (Old Stone Age), Mesolithic (Middle Stone Age), and Neolithic (New Stone Age). The Paleolithic saw the development of basic stone tools and the emergence of early human species. The Mesolithic marked a transition with more refined tools and adaptation to changing environments. The Neolithic is characterized by the advent of agriculture, settled communities, and the domestication of animals.

Following the Stone Age came the Bronze Age, notable for the discovery and use of bronze, an alloy of copper and tin. This technological advancement led to more sophisticated tools, weapons, and advancements in metallurgy. The Iron Age, the final major prehistoric era, is defined by the widespread use of iron. This period witnessed the rise of complex societies, the development of trade networks, and the beginnings of what would later be recorded history. The transition from prehistory to history is marked by the adoption of writing systems, which allowed for the recording of events, laws, and cultural practices.
