Fuldert

Fuldert is a small municipality located in the district of Schwarzwald-Baar in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The community lies within the eastern part of the Black Forest on the valley of the stream Ofenbach at an elevation of approximately 712 metres above sea level. It covers an area of 12.6 square kilometres and includes the village of the same name as well as the surrounding hamlets of Lichtenberg and Kirchstatt.

The earliest recorded mention of Fuldert dates to 1258 in a document referencing land holdings of the Bishopric of Basel. Throughout the Middle Ages the village was part of the feudal domain of the House of Hohenzollern, and its economy was predominantly agrarian, centred on forestry, subsistence farming and small-scale tar production. The village became part of the Kingdom of Württemberg in the early nineteenth century following the secularisation and mediatisation of ecclesiastical territories.

Today, Fuldert retains a predominantly rural character with a population of about 1,200 residents. The local economy is largely based on tourism, small-scale agriculture, and artisanal craftsmanship. The village hosts several historical structures, including the timber‑framed St. Vinzenz church, constructed in the early 17th century, and the remnants of a 14th‑century defensive tower. Annual festivals celebrate traditional Black Forest customs, featuring folk music, regional cuisine and craft exhibitions. Fuldert is accessible via local road networks and is a popular base for hiking and winter sports in the surrounding forested areas.
