FuelAdditiv
FuelAdditiv is a general term for chemical substances added to fuels to improve their performance or characteristics. These additives are designed to address various issues that can arise from fuel combustion or storage. Common types of fuel additives include detergents, which help to clean engine components such as fuel injectors and intake valves, preventing buildup and maintaining optimal fuel flow. Anti-knock agents, like tetraethyllead in the past, were used to increase the octane rating of gasoline, reducing engine knocking or pinging. Modern gasoline formulations often include ethanol as a biofuel additive that can improve octane and reduce emissions.
Other fuel additives serve purposes like corrosion inhibition, preventing rust and degradation of fuel system components.
