Fuegiana

Fuegiana is a genus of plants in the family Asteraceae. The genus was described by Carl Linnaeus in 1753 and is native to South America.

There are currently three recognized species within the genus Fuegiana: Fuegiana antarctica, Fuegiana magellanica, and Fuegiana fuegiana. These plants are typically found in subantarctic regions, often in rocky or coastal habitats. They are herbaceous perennials, meaning they live for multiple years and regrow from their roots each season. The leaves of Fuegiana species are usually simple and arranged alternately on the stem. The flowers are characteristic of the Asteraceae family, with a capitulum composed of ray florets and disc florets. The color of the ray florets can vary, but is often yellow or white.

Fuegiana species play a role in their native ecosystems, providing food and habitat for local fauna. Their distribution is largely confined to the southern tip of South America, including Tierra del Fuego, from which the genus derives its name.
