Fotosensitiivisyyttä

Fotosensitiivisyys, or photosensitivity, refers to the increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight or artificial light. This condition can cause a range of symptoms, including redness, itching, burning, and blistering, when exposed to light. Fotosensitiivisyys can be acute, lasting for a short period, or chronic, persisting over a longer time.

The underlying causes of fotosensitiivisyys can vary widely. It may be triggered by certain medications, such as antibiotics, antimalarials, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Other factors include skin conditions like eczema or psoriasis, as well as certain medical conditions such as lupus or vitiligo. Additionally, exposure to certain chemicals or plants, like poison ivy, can also lead to fotosensitiivisyys.

Treatment for fotosensitiivisyys depends on the underlying cause. For medication-induced photosensitivity, switching to an alternative medication or using sunscreen and protective clothing can be effective. For skin conditions, topical corticosteroids or other treatments may be prescribed. In cases where the cause is unknown, a dermatologist may perform tests to identify the trigger and develop an appropriate treatment plan.
