Fotoconductores

Fotoconductores are materials that change their electrical conductivity in response to light. They are also known as photoconductive materials or light-sensitive materials. These substances have a different electrical property when exposed to light, specifically visible light or other types of electromagnetic radiation.

The change in conductivity occurs due to the promotion of charge carriers, such as electrons or holes, from the valence band to the conduction band in the material's electronic structure. When light is absorbed by the material, it provides the energy needed for these charge carriers to move freely, increasing the material's electrical conductivity.

Fotoconductores have various applications in technologies that rely on light-induced electrical changes. One of the most common uses is in photographic exposure devices, including photocopiers, camera light meters, and certain types of film exposure meters. In these applications, fotoconductores are used to measure or control light intensity.

Another application is in light-sensitive electrochromic materials, which undergo color changes in response to different light intensities or types of electromagnetic radiation. These materials are used in display technologies, including some types of smart windows or displays that can change their color or transparency in response to external light conditions.

In addition, fotoconductores are also used in various scientific and research applications, including laser-induced thermal imaging and photoconductivity-based sensors.
