Once fertilization has occurred, the process of reproduction continues with the development of the zygote, which is the fertilized egg. In animals, the zygote develops into an embryo, which eventually grows into a fetus and then a newborn. In plants, the fertilized ovule develops into a seed, which contains the embryo and the necessary nutrients for its growth. The seed is then dispersed, allowing the plant to reproduce and propagate.
