Fortgå

Fortgå is a coastal town and municipality in the archipelago nation of Eldoria, located on the Fortgå Archipelago along the eastern coast. The town serves as the administrative center of Fortgå Municipality and as a regional hub for fishing and light manufacturing. It has a population of approximately 7,400 residents. The surrounding landscape comprises rocky shores, pine forests, and several natural harbors.

The name Fortgå derives from Old Norse elements meaning fort and farm, reflecting its historical role around a coastal fortress and farmstead. The harbor sheltered ships from northern winds, making Fortgå an important trading point since medieval times. The municipality covers about 60 square kilometers, including several islets and coastal inlets.

History and governance: Fortgå was first documented in the 12th century, centered on Fortgå Fortress built to protect the harbor. The settlement grew through the following centuries, and it was established as a municipality in the 1830s. Today Fortgå is governed by a locally elected municipal council and a mayor.

Economy and culture: The local economy relies on fisheries and seafood processing, supplemented by tourism and small-scale manufacturing.
