Forgótömítés

Forgótömítés is the Hungarian term for a rotary shaft seal, also commonly known as a lip seal or oil seal. It is a mechanical device designed to prevent leakage of fluids or contaminants from a rotating shaft or housing. These seals are essential components in many mechanical systems where shafts rotate within a stationary housing, such as in engines, pumps, gearboxes, and bearings.

The primary function of a forgótömítés is to create a barrier. Typically, it consists of a flexible sealing lip made of elastomeric material (like rubber or polyurethane) that is pressed against the rotating shaft. This contact creates a seal, preventing lubricants from escaping and external contaminants like dust, dirt, and moisture from entering the mechanism. The outer casing of the seal is usually made of metal, providing structural rigidity and facilitating its installation into a housing.

The design and material selection for a forgótömítés depend on various factors, including the operating temperature, pressure, the type of fluid being sealed, and the speed of the shaft.
