Folyadékveszteség refers to the loss of body fluids. This can occur through various natural processes or due to medical conditions. The body's fluid balance is crucial for maintaining normal physiological functions. When fluid intake does not match fluid output, dehydration can result.

Common causes of fluid loss include sweating, breathing, urination, and defecation. Excessive sweating during exercise or hot weather is a significant contributor. Vomiting and diarrhea can lead to rapid and substantial fluid loss. Certain medical conditions, such as diabetes insipidus, can increase urine production and thus fluid loss. Burns can also cause significant fluid loss from damaged skin.

Symptoms of fluid loss vary depending on the severity. Mild dehydration may manifest as thirst, dry mouth, and reduced urine output. More severe dehydration can lead to dizziness, fatigue, confusion, rapid heartbeat, and even shock.

Maintaining adequate fluid intake is the primary method of preventing and treating fluid loss. Water is the most effective fluid for rehydration. Electrolyte-containing drinks can be beneficial when significant electrolyte losses have occurred, such as with severe vomiting or diarrhea. In cases of severe dehydration, intravenous fluid administration may be necessary under medical supervision. Monitoring fluid balance is important in various clinical settings to ensure patient well-being.
