Fininvest

Fininvest S.p.A. is an Italian private holding company based in Milan. It was founded in 1978 by Silvio Berlusconi and members of his family to organize and coordinate their commercial interests. As the group’s parent, Fininvest has served as the controlling shareholder of several major Italian media and publishing companies, most notably Mediaset, a leading television broadcaster, and Mondadori, the country’s largest publishing house. Through its subsidiaries, the group has interests in television and film production, advertising, and related media services. Historically the company has also overseen activities in finance and other sectors through affiliated ventures.

Fininvest's media holdings have positioned it at the center of Italy's modern media landscape. Mediaset operates several free-to-air channels and pay TV platforms, while Mondadori publishes magazines and books across multiple genres. The group has also been connected to the Publitalia advertising network, a major conduit for commercial advertising in Italy. In addition, Fininvest has had associations with financial services through the Mediolanum financial group.

The firm is closely associated with the Berlusconi family and remains privately held. It has undergone reorganizations and has faced regulatory and political scrutiny in the context of Italy's media and competition law landscape. In the late 2010s, Fininvest sold its ownership in AC Milan, the club it had controlled for decades, to a dedicated investment vehicle, marking a notable shift in its holdings.

Today Mediaset and Mondadori remain Fininvest's core assets, sustaining its role as a major force in Italian media and publishing.
