Felsati

Felsati is a language spoken by the Felsati people in the eastern highlands of the fictional region of Valara. It has a long oral tradition and a modern standard used in schools and media.

The name derives from ancient roots in the Felsati language, with fels- meaning "rock" and a suffix -ati forming an ethnonym. The term is historically associated with rock-cut architecture and cliff settlements described in early inscriptions.

Felsati is an agglutinative language with suffix-based morphology. It commonly uses a subject–verb–object order in modern speech and features vowel harmony and a modest consonant inventory, including a few ejectives in dialects.

The language is normally written with a Latin-based alphabet augmented by diacritics; a traditional syllabary, the ashine script, appears in ceremonial contexts.

Estimates put the number of Felsati speakers at about 120,000, concentrated in the eastern highlands and adjacent valleys. It is taught in some schools and used in regional media, but it is considered endangered and supported by revitalization programs emphasizing bilingual education and intergenerational transmission.

Cultural expression in Felsati includes oral epic poetry, proverbs, and music linked to landscape features and ancestry. The language serves as a marker of community identity and continuity.
