FcRezeptoren

FcRezeptoren, also known as Fc receptors, are a group of proteins found on the surface of various immune cells, including phagocytes, lymphocytes, and mast cells. These receptors play a crucial role in the adaptive immune system by binding to the Fc portion of antibodies. Antibodies, specifically Immunoglobulin G (IgG), Immunoglobulin M (IgM), and Immunoglobulin E (IgE), are proteins produced by B cells that target foreign invaders like bacteria and viruses.

The Fc portion of an antibody is the constant region, which remains the same for a given antibody class. When antibodies bind to a pathogen, their Fc regions are exposed. Fc receptors recognize and bind to these exposed Fc regions. This binding event triggers a downstream signaling cascade within the immune cell, initiating a specific immune response.

There are different types of Fc receptors, classified based on the antibody isotype they bind to, such as Fcγ receptors for IgG, Fcα receptors for IgA, and Fcε receptors for IgE. These receptors can be activating or inhibitory, depending on their specific structure and the immune cell they are on.

Upon binding, activating Fc receptors can lead to processes like phagocytosis, where the immune cell engulfs and destroys the antibody-coated pathogen. They can also trigger the release of inflammatory mediators or cytotoxic molecules. Inhibitory Fc receptors, on the other hand, can suppress immune responses, preventing excessive inflammation or autoimmunity. In summary, Fc receptors are essential intermediaries that bridge the gap between antibody-mediated recognition of targets and the effector functions of immune cells, thereby facilitating pathogen clearance and immune regulation.
