Faseforskjøvet

Faseforskjøvet is a Norwegian term used to describe a signal, waveform, or periodic phenomenon whose phase angle has been shifted relative to a reference. In practice, this means a change in the timing of the periodic cycle without altering its frequency or amplitude.

In electronics and signal processing, phase shifting is a common operation. A phase shifter alters the phase angle φ of a sinusoid x(t) = A sin(ωt + φ) while keeping A and ω constant. Techniques include RC networks, all-pass filters, and digital processing. A classic example is the RC phase shift network that produces a total 180-degree phase shift across several stages, used in RC phase shift oscillators. A 90-degree phase shift is used to generate quadrature signals, enabling I/Q demodulation or Hilbert transform applications.

In mathematics and physics, a phase shift corresponds to adding a constant to the angle of a sinusoid: sin(ωt + φ0). Phase shifting does not change the frequency, only the relative timing of the waveform. Understanding phase differences is crucial for interference, constructive or destructive addition, and system responses, and phase is typically measured in radians or degrees.
