Fagositlerdir are a group of specialized cells within the immune system that play a crucial role in defending the body against pathogens and cellular debris. The term "fagositlerdir" is not a recognized scientific term in English; however, the concept it likely refers to is phagocytes. Phagocytes are cells that engulf and absorb other cells, microorganisms, foreign particles, and dead cells through a process called phagocytosis.

There are several types of phagocytes, each with distinct roles and locations within the body. The primary phagocytes include macrophages, neutrophils, and dendritic cells. Neutrophils are abundant and are typically the first responders to infection, migrating to the site of inflammation to engulf bacteria. Macrophages are larger and longer-lived cells that reside in tissues throughout the body. They not only engulf pathogens but also present antigens to other immune cells, initiating a more targeted immune response. Dendritic cells are also important antigen-presenting cells, bridging the innate and adaptive immune systems.

The process of phagocytosis involves the phagocyte extending its cell membrane to surround the particle, forming a vesicle called a phagosome. This phagosome then fuses with lysosomes, which contain powerful enzymes and reactive oxygen species that degrade and destroy the engulfed material. Phagocytosis is a fundamental mechanism for clearing infections, removing damaged cells, and maintaining tissue homeostasis. Dysfunctional phagocytosis can lead to increased susceptibility to infections and can contribute to inflammatory diseases.
