Fadnavis

Devendra Fadnavis is an Indian politician who served as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra from November 2014 to September 2019. Born on October 11, 1966, in Mumbai, he is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and has been actively involved in politics for several decades. Fadnavis holds a degree in Law from the Government Law College, Mumbai, and has also worked as a lawyer before entering full-time political service.

Fadnavis began his political career in the late 1980s as a student leader and later joined the BJP. He was elected to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly for the first time in 1995 from the Kalyan constituency. Over the years, he held various ministerial positions in the state government, including Chief Minister of Maharashtra from 2003 to 2004 and again from 2014 to 2019. His second term as Chief Minister was notable for his role in implementing key policies such as the *Mukhya Mantri Awas Yojana* (a housing scheme for the poor) and efforts to improve infrastructure and education in Maharashtra.

During his tenure, Fadnavis was also involved in national politics, serving as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha from 2014 to 2017. He played a significant role in the BJP’s campaign during the 2014 general elections, which resulted in the party’s landslide victory. Fadnavis resigned as Chief Minister in September 2019, citing personal reasons, and was succeeded by his deputy, Uddhav Thackeray.

Known for his disciplined leadership and pragmatic approach, Fadnavis has been both praised for his administrative skills and criticized for his handling of certain issues, including economic challenges and political controversies. He remains a prominent figure in Maharashtra politics and continues to be active in the BJP.
